Willing Support from Students and Professors: Charles Stump

It’s not what we often hear about a university class, but what really connects with Charles Stump, ’27, at Temple Dental is the unity of his fellow students.

“It means a lot to me that I’m part of a class that is so friendly, kind, and gracious that we’re willing to help each other out instead of putting ourselves forward. While we have people who want to specialize and get a good CPA, I would call my class selfless, not selfish.”

He continues, “We have friend groups, but I wouldn’t say we’re cliquey. Actually, we have a hard time quieting down when a lecture begins because we’re so excited to be around each other.”

That support is also evident in Temple Dental professors, says Stump.  To illustrate, he mentions his current endo classes. “It was really confusing and challenging at first. But Dr. Miloradovic, Dr. Morreale, and other faculty stayed late to help us learn. That’s the mentality that goes on here. Professors want you to do your best, not necessarily leading you by the hand. But if you want to put in the work, they’ll help you and tell you everything you want to know.”

Emphasizing that point, Stump says, “If you want to learn, Temple is willing to teach you. So when you get to clinic with a real patient, you’re not panicking. You know the basics. Things might go wrong. You still might have complications. But you’re prepared, more comfortable and confident.”
