Evaluating Implant Coatings

CHINMAYA AGARWAL RECEIVED an Osteo Science Foundation Research Award which provides $5,000 in funding for one year on the theme of regenerative medicine. His project focuses on developing and evaluating coatings on implants to assess their bone regeneration potential; this work is being conducted at the Smart Dental Biomaterials Lab under the guidance of Dr. Santiago Orrego and Dr. Pooja Gangwani. The Osteo Science Foundation is a prestigious organization that supports students in early career research.

Agarwal entered Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry as an international graduate student in the MS Oral Health Sciences program, which has provided an excellent platform to pursue bench research. He will graduate this fall and begin his Advanced standing DMD Program, continuing his research while learning dentistry. “My time at Temple Dental (a gallery of Scientific evidence synthesis), has been the perfect blend of clinical dentistry and research,” said Agarwal. “From bench lab to chairside and everything in between has felt like walking through a work of scientific art.”
